Randle becomes 28th Texan in Pro HOF
Hearne native John Randle, a smallish-but-standout defensive tackle for the Minnesota Vikings for 14 years, on Saturday was selected for enshrinement to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

There are more than 1,600 Texas high schools, and one out every 10 carries the Eagles mascot.
There are 120 schools that have unique mascots -- one of which has unique names for both the boys' and girls' teams.
We breakdown the mascot scoreboard, list all the schools with their mascots, and rank the unique mascots.

Conference shuffle
In 2003, the Atlantic Coast Conference raided the Big East for three teams, to improve its position in the Bowl Championship Series.
The MWC, already approached by Boise State for membership, is putting extreme pressure on the Big East for the last BCS slot.
If the MWC invites Boise by July, 2010, it can count the Broncos' past successes as its own in the conference evaluation period.
The Big Ten is also conducting a national search for potential additions.

-- Economic downturn could impact on shuffling

Scholarship misnomer
On youth sports fields across Texas and the nation, thousands of youngsters will participate in a variety of sports each and every weekend.
Many, particularly parents, dream of an athletic scholarship that will pay for their child's education.
But even if an "Olympic sport" scholarship is earned, it will not be the panacea of which their parents dreamt, or spent thousands of dollars trying to earn.
